Which Needle Size is Right for You? A Pharmacist Explains

A pharmacist breaks down 4mm vs 6mm vs 8mm pen needles and helps you pick the most comfortable option for your GLP-1 routine.

Pen needles look almost identical at first glance, but small differences in length and gauge change the comfort and safety of every injection. Here is a pharmacist-led breakdown.

4mm — the modern standard

A 4mm x 32G needle is the most common recommendation for GLP-1 users. It reaches the fatty layer just under the skin without going too deep, and most people find it the most comfortable option.

6mm and 8mm — when they are used

Longer needles still have a place for some users, particularly those who have been advised by a clinician to use a specific length. They are rarely needed for routine GLP-1 injections.

One needle per dose

Always use a fresh sterile needle. Reusing a needle blunts the tip, increases pain, and risks contamination — drop it into the sharps bin immediately after each injection.
