The Complete Guide to Travelling with Mounjaro & Wegovy in 2026

A 2026 update to our most-read travel guide — what to pack, how to keep your GLP-1 pen cool, and how to handle airport security at home and abroad.

Travelling with a GLP-1 pen is straightforward once you plan for temperature control and security checks. This 2026 guide pulls together everything we have learned from the CoolDose community over the past year.

Before you leave

Carry your pen in hand luggage — never in checked baggage, where temperatures can drop below freezing. Pack a copy of your prescription, enough pen needles for the full trip, alcohol swabs, and a small sharps bin if you will be away for more than a few days.

Keeping your pen cool

Unused pens should stay between 2–8°C. An insulated travel case with a pre-chilled cooling pack keeps medication in range for up to 48 hours, which covers most long-haul flights and road trips. A pen already in use can sit at room temperature for the duration the manufacturer specifies — usually 28 to 30 days.

At the airport

Declare prescribed injectable medication at security. Staff in the UK, EU, and US are all familiar with GLP-1 and insulin pens. For international trips, carry a doctor note — it removes ambiguity if a checkpoint asks for documentation.

While you are away

Hotel mini-fridges are not always reliable. If you are unsure, ask reception to store the pen in the main kitchen fridge, or keep it in your insulated case with a fresh ice pack.
